Mine is that I just don’t like superchargers. I like turbos, and horsepower in general, but superchargers just don’t do it for me.

I am kinda anti-pushrod engine, as high hp/L NA is cool to me. Also, I think silver is a boring color

And in manual transmissions, R should always be up and to the left

The Porsche Carrera GT. I think it is stupid, hideously ugly, overpriced, and completely defeats the purpose of driving for fun by replacing fun with difficulty and clutch smoke.

Mine is the reverse of yours - I don't like turbos. I had a bad experience 25 years ago with a Sunbird convertible that I bought new - 4 turbos and 1 head gasket in 50k miles before I unloaded that crapcan. That, and turbo lag, have kept me out of turbocharged cars ever since - N/A was a specific requirement when I got my last car, which really limited me. And yes - I realize that technology and reliability have improved greatly, but I still have that mental block.

I’ll take RWD with winter tires any day over FWD with winter tires.

I’m not really sure if that fits the question but I’d much rather have RWD in the snow.

I’d agree - these aggravate me in that they’re cars that even trained racing drivers have difficulty controlling (cf. Paul Walker). If I had to pick one thing that aggravates me the most and is least defensible? Probably non-stock wheels and tires that fuck up the handling and grind up the differential.

Yeah, turbo-averse is a good way to describe me, also. But my wife's car has BMW's 3.0 twin turbo in it, and that is one sweet drive train - if it holds up, anyways. Jury is still out on that.

The problem I have is that no matter how well designed a turbo system is, at my elevation they just aren’t linear enough for my tastes.

I don’t like air-cooled 911's. They’re slow (except the turbo versions) sound like sewing machines and have the engine in a terrible spot.

And I have driven them. Steerings nice, but the insane cost of them is not equal to the amount of driving pleasure.

I dont get the whole rolling coal thing.

Its basically ricing a diesel truck to me. I have no issue with the owner being able to do whatever they wish, its their car.

Go ahead and add a tuner, intake exhaust to your diesel. I did for mpg boost. But dont sit at a light and try to pour smoke out of the exhaust because my truck puffed a tiny little bit out.

BTW, my truck only puffs out a tiny little amount, less than some of those vapor clouds idiots.

hmmm. I have a pretty strong distaste for anything VW, especially the GTI. This was developed before the whole Dieselgate thing so that hasn’t helped.

All things considered the GTI is a great car. Its practical and fun to drive. Part of the issue is that about 5 other young professional engineers I know all bought GTI’s right after we all started our big boy jobs so it comes across as a boring choice to me.

My main problem stems from every VW I’ve ever had contact with has been a colossal pain in the ass to work on. And I’ve had to work on nearly every VW I’ve come into contact with.

Funny, a 1987 Sunbird Turbo GT hardtop (bought 10 years and 70k miles after production) was the car that made me love turbos. 4 speed manual, headliner falling down (as every 80s GM inevitably did), and the worlds ugliest dash, with a strange mileage counter mounted in the center console (but no cupholders). I was a teenage idiot in that car, but loved every second of it, and it gave me hardly any trouble for the three years I owned it, until a school teacher in a Geo Storm decided to turn it into a hatchback.

09/13/2016 at 21:00

Mine is weird and a little mean but at least 50% of me believes in it. I feel that the barrier for entry for cars is too low which means there are totally shit cars (either old heaps of junk or more modern but still shitty cars) and totally shit drivers all over the road.

I believe shit cars also lead to bad driving since they can’t handle well people end up driving them very cautiously slowing down for every gradual elevation change or slamming on their brakes for every minor curve in the road which then causes stuff like traffic or accidents.

The shit drivers (I understand they need to get to work and feed their families etc) make it bad for everyone when they are driving under the speed limit, impeding the flow of traffic, turning from center lanes, not signaling etc. If the bar was higher for being allowed to drive it would make the roads safer and driving much easier.

Ha! That’s awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I had a blast in that car. 1990 SE convertible with a turbo and 5 speed. Tons of torque steer- it was great as long as the tach was above 3000. The fact that I was a 22 year old idiot had something to do with the turbo and head gasket issues I’m sure. The last three were within 12 months or so, and I gave up.

I don’t know about least-defensible, but I don’t like any kind of forced induction.

I feel like the additional heat and pressure are unlikely to hold up well over time.

I go to track days and see lots of old E30s and E36 M3s, and I’m incredibly doubtful that in 20 years there will be a bunch of old F30 M3s/M4s found at racetracks.

Worse yet is that so many people believe they’re so reliable. But they’re not even close. I’ve put less time and money in my two circa ‘00 E-classes in two years than I did in my sister-in-law’s same vintage outback in one year. The stupidru even had lower miles. The only good thing about that car was that I managed to get her $700 for it as a trade in needing yet another set of head gaskets, trans work, tires, and more. Oh and my E’s are still strong and happy.

Thats funny, I am completely opposite. Turbos are cool and neat, but superchargers just do something for me that a turbo never can. Put really my biggest pet peeve is when they use plastic to imitate metal finishes. Like seriously, a thin piece of aluminum doesn’t way much and would 100% bring up the level of the interior. Also just do fabric covered dashes please. The plastic sucks. And Chrome trim around windows. You don’t have any thing else chrome on the car. The emblems may imitate chome, but fuck off with the window trim. It looks stupid and RUINS THE LINES OF MOST CARS
